A large amount of research has been undertaken over the last eighty years including: long term comparisons between biodynamic, organic, and conventional farming systems, the efficacy of the biodynamic preparations, and research into food quality. The results indicate that in biodynamic produce the matter content is higher, nitrate content is lower and the vitality is greater. We gain our physical strength from the process of breaking down the food we eat. The more vital our food, the more it stimulates our own activity and will forces. There is considerable anecdotal evidence to show that eating biodynamic food increases vitality, reduces allergic reactions and brings about an all round health improvement. Many of the Alderlea shareholders have made comments that support these conclusions. Not only is Alderlea BC organic certified, but Alderlea farm is biodynamically certified. Biodynamic food has been labeled - “Food with Character”. Biodynamic produce is marketed using the Demeter symbol. Demeter is the name oof the ancient Greek goddess of fertility and abundance. Biodynamic agriculture practices not only produce vital, health giving food but also works to increase the fertility of the land and heal, nourish, and revitalize the earth  The biodynamic preparations are sprayed on the fields or applied to the compost pile. These eight preparations are fermented, natural, and organic substances that are used to steer humus forming processes in the soil, vitalize plant growth, and harmonize life on the farm with that of its immediate and more distant surroundings. The preparations are medicines for the Earth. On Keating farm we will be following the same practices; however, we have not yet completed the certification process.
